As Sunshine Therapy Dogs continues to expand across Ontario, there have been a couple of instances where existing or emerging groups have challenged us, and our response is always the same – we’re not here to step on paws! Engaging volunteers and providing therapeutic visits to those in need is not a territorial endeavor. In fact, experience has shown us time and again that there is so much more need than existing capacity. If we can help to close that gap in some small way, then we’re happy to do that!
While dogs might relieve themselves on trees to mark their territory, that is not our objective. We know that there are similar programs to ours operating in many communities – and we believe there is room for all of us. We are looking forward to working with you in Peterborough, Barrie, Hamilton, Guelph, Kitchener-Waterloo, London and the GTA! I know there are some folks who would argue that it is a duplication of services – we like to think that there can never be too much Sunshine in a community (pun intended!) The heart that we bring to our communities doesn’t divide us; it expands us all. So, if you have a friendly dog and you’re looking for a meaningful way to give back to your community, come join our pack! And if you already belong to another pack, that’s okay, too!
