When I brought my dog Hugo home during COVID, I was looking for companionship. I never imagined how much joy, comfort, and routine he would bring into my life during such an uncertain time.
Today, I’m grateful to share that same comfort with others through the Sunshine Therapy Dogs team. Together, Hugo and I have volunteered in Guelph for over a year at schools, long-term care homes, shelters, libraries, and corporate mental health events. And we’re just getting started!
Whether it’s a student taking a break from a stressful exam period, a senior reminiscing about a beloved pet, or someone simply smiling after a difficult day, every visit is a reminder of the power of connection. Volunteering constantly reminds me that small moments of kindness can make a meaningful difference.
I’m thankful to be part of the Sunshine Therapy Dogs organization that gives us the opportunity to spread a little more joy, one visit at a time. And of course for my volunteer partner Hugo, who reminds me every day that compassion doesn’t need words – sometimes it’s a wagging tail.
